Sino Group shopping malls support low-carbon lifestyles with 7 July Mission "Everyday No Plastic Bags"

Sino Group has always promoted green causes, and has worked closely with the government and other organisations within the community to raise public awareness about environmental protection. In conjunction with the launch of the Environment Levy on Plastic Shopping Bags, all 11 Sino Group shopping malls will provide custom-designed reusable bags to shoppers on 7 July 2009. About 1,000 complimentary shopping bags will also be given to residential tenants of Sino properties and 130,000 Sino residents will receive the bags via participating in a green programme entitled ‘Loving Green Living Green’ to encourage them to adopt a greener lifestyle.

From 7 July 2009, Sino shopping malls will introduce the Mission "Everyday No Plastic Bags" initiative to encourage customers to use fewer disposable plastic bags. Reusable bags, specially designed by the famous local illustrator Bigsoil, will be available for purchase at Customer Service Centres for HK$10 each. All proceeds will be contributed to Greeners’ Action to support their efforts in promoting environmental protection.

Mr Sunny Yeung, Executive Director of Sino Group, said at the press conference, "Sino Group has always actively promoted environmental protection. In addition to developing properties with environmental-friendly features, we also encourage our customers to adopt green lifestyles. The Environment Levy on Plastic Shopping Bags will first apply to supermarkets, convenience stores and personal health and beauty stores. We have about 51 such retail tenants in our shopping malls, and they all expect plastic bag usage to fall by about fifty percent," Sunny Yeung added.

Chairman of Greeners’ Action, Mr Angus Ho expressed, "Through this programme, we hope to encourage more people to pay attention to environmental issues. We also want to see more companies to demonstrate their corporate citizenship by supporting more green initiatives."

"Loving Green Living Green"
The Sino Group's "Loving Green Living Green" programme brings a series of eco-friendly and healthy activities to encourage residents of 80 residential estates to live a greener life. Among the activities are green seminars conducted by celebrities and experts. Sino residents can obtain a stamp by partaking in each of the above green programmes and may redeem a mouse pad an environmentally friendly bag or a coffee mug according to its required number of stamps.
