Sino Group’s Skyline Tower clinched the Grand Award in Green Building Award 2010

Skyline Tower, a Grade A commercial building managed by Sino Property Services (SPS), has received the Grand Award in Existing Buildings Category (Facility Management Sub-Category) at The Green Building Award 2010.

The Green Building Award 2010 aims to recognise building-related projects that represent the cutting-edge and newest trends in green buildings and environmental sustainability. With all-round green designs, innovative green programmes and an environmentally-aware property management team, Skyline Tower has deeply impressed the jury panel and being complimented for its continuing effort in energy saving, waste reduction, system of harvested rainwater for irrigation, and the property management team’s persistence in developing social sustainability in an urban context.

As the pilot property for implementing SPS’ green initiatives, Skyline Tower actively adopts new environmental-friendly policies. Skyline Tower is one of the pilot buildings for the Environment Bureau's "Carbon Audit Guidelines". A series of measures have been launched to reduce the carbon emissions of the building. These include installing energy-saving equipment such as a water-cooled chiller system, LED lights in EXIT light boxes, shower water taps and a solar energy system.

In terms of software, a number of green projects were launched at Skyline Tower. Last year Skyline Tower launched the pilot “Mission Green Top” initiative with the Hong Chi Association (HCA) to organically cultivate plants and vegetables in a rooftop garden maintained by Hong Chi trainees. Regular sales of the garden’s harvest are held. The project promotes a greener environment in office towers, and also provides employment opportunities to people with intellectual disabilities, and therefore won the “Partnership Project Award” of “Caring Company” organized by The Hong Kong Council of Social Service. This year, SPS and HCA collaborated again and launched a new seedling adoption programme, “Mission Green Thumb”. Through the programme, tenants are entitled to adopt and name a seedling for the year for every donation of HK$100 in the name of an individual or company. The adopted seedlings are then taken care of by HCA trainees who would also share their organic farming skills with the tenants.

General Manager of Sino Property Services, Kwan Chi Wah, said, “We are pleased that our efforts have been recognised by the award. We will work even harder to improve our green facilities and adopt more new initiatives. To staff, customers, and the next generation, SPS will continue to convey the message that green is everybody's business.”

SPS has been actively promoting environmental protection policies through a quality management system. It has been accredited with ISO 14001 Certification on Environmental Management System and the Hong Kong Green Mark. Through a wide range of green activities such as “Everyday No Plastic Bags”, “Reduce Use of Plastic Umbrella Bags” and “Students’ Green Ambassador Programme”, SPS spreads the message of environment protection to different sectors in society.
